Roger Lightfoot

From an early age I have been fascinated by all things technical.

I built my first computer at the age of 15. To my great delight this burst into life first time just moments after I hand-soldered the last of over 2,000 solder joints. I even recall building a radio controlled Mecano car!

More recently, my enthusiasm is directed towards seeking new ways to improve business efficiency and customer service levels by the creative application of IT to business.

I spent 4 fantastic years at Loughborough University reading Mechanical Engineering during which time I was privileged to be sponsored by Jaguar Cars and contributed in a very minor way to the development of the new F-Type sports car.

On graduating I joined a specialist Engineering and Software house CHAM in Wimbledon. Initially, I worked in a technical capacity using the company’s world-leading Computational Dynamics Software to model fluid flow and heat transfer. I then enjoyed two very valuable years in the company’s sales and marketing division.

I consider myself very fortunate to be the Group Chief Executive of The Hobbs Parker Group which I joined in 1990. As well as being involved in the more traditional businesses, I launched the group’s telecoms and IT business HP Technology in 1999 which today looks after over 750 business customers in the South East.

I live with my wife and three children in a lovely Kentish village called Woodchurch; complete with windmill, village cricket square and a couple of pubs. I love sport; I have skied since the age of 7, played hockey for Ashford Hockey Club for over 35 years and am a member of local golf and tennis clubs.

Spark 9 is the latest chapter in a very happy life and I am really looking forward to building some brilliant products using the very best of what modern web technology has to offer.
